QUOTE: The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up. – Mark Twain
HEALTH/FITNESS: A few months back I read the book called “The clever guts diet” by Dr Michael Mosely. There were a number of interesting facts discussed about improving gut health and the microbiome. The health of your gut can shift based on what you eat. He stated if you are craving sugars it could be the result of the bad bacteria being overgrown in your gut.
As your gut is the second brain of your body (the brain is connected via the enteric nervous system to the digestive system) when bacteria in the gut are hungry they report to the brain what they want to eat….this could be different from what you planed on eating.
Probiotics that contain Lactobacillus & Bifidobacterium are key bacterial strains to help protect your gut from the bad bacteria (the ones that make you crave sugar) and they also help strengthen your gut wall.
To remain healthy it’s essential to keep your “gut bugs” in check. Studies have shown drinking small amounts of Apple Cider Vinegar with warm water and Lemon first thing in the morning aides in digestion and helping to keep the gut/intestine balanced.
MINDSET: When feeling down, Mark Twain said it best. Check out the quote at the top. We intrinsically feel better when we help others. This month I want you to speak out and share your kind words when you notice someone deserving of them.
How many times have you gone out to eat and had amazing service but not actually thanked the person serving you directly for their time, energy and care? How often have you noticed someone’s outfit and thought, wow they look great!, but kept quiet? When was the last time you took an extra few seconds to help someone in need, like the mum lifting her pram off the train/up the stairs or the person with their hands full trying to figure out how to open the door.
Give a helping hand or give a compliment and notice how your own spirits will instantly feel lifted.
NUTRITION: One of the perks of me working a few hours a couple days a week at Health Space Clinics is I have the opportunity to work among and with a wide variety of health care providers.
